Edited 8/29/07: I’m not taking this one down yet. I’m having way too much fun reading your lists. Please feel free to add another set of five if you are so inclined — I’m almost inspired enough to make a cd of all our music!
Yesterday was a bust, if you measure what I needed to do against what I actually got done, so today, I work. And I work till it’s done.
But as I was loading up my “work music,” I came across a song that was so reminiscent of my high school days that I just had to stop, listen, and remember.
Everyone has those songs — the songs that transport you back to that particular time and place so vividly that the senses actually come alive, and you can almost smell the cologne, taste the pizza, and, most of all, feel the emotions that were present at that time.
So, quickly, here are some of mine. With a few disclaimers: First, I’m doing this in a godawful hurry so I know as soon as I post, I’ll remember another song, but no problem. I’ll just continue the post for another day if I have to! Second, I know I am running the risk of severely dating myself, but hey, we’re all friends here. Finally, I’m only going to list the first five that pop into my head. Otherwise, we’ll be here all day. And I ain’t got that kinda time. Plus, there would be way too much ‘splainin’ to do.
1. “Magic Man” by Heart.
2. “Tequila Sunrise” by the Eagles.
3. “Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin'” by Journey.
4. “American Pie” by Don McLean.
5. “Lowdown” by Boz Skaggs.
Now it’s your turn. This isn’t a tag. I just want you to list, in the comments, five songs, from YOUR past, that immediately transport you to a time, any time. First five that come to mind. Now hurry.

There you go – a portion of my HS listening. Could also have been “The Pines of Rome” or “Folk Song Suite” or “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” or “Walk through the Paradise Garden,” but nobody else would recognize those anyhow, so I thought it best to stick with the top 40. 🙂
