So if you hadn’t figured it out by now, we had our church/school fair this weekend. Three days of merriment and throwing buttloads of cash at people. Huge, life-threatening rides. Games. Legalized gambling. And all the beer you can drink. Good times.
And funnel cake.
God, that stuff is deadly, huh? Deep fried fat rolled in sugar. Aaah. Hear those arteries closing? The cake is doing its job.
See, I love stuff like that. Not just funnel cake. But carnival food. I’m a glutton for the stuff. I usually make an effort to keep my junk food intake to a reasonable level the rest of the time. But give me a carnival or a festival, and I’m up in the middle of the food booths. Nachos, burgers, jambalaya, chicken strips. But there was more. Outback Steakhouse, for cryin’ out loud. Italian food. They even announced yesterday that the funnel cake booth was serving freakin’ fried twinkies. Ignatius D. Reilly would be in heaven. And so was I. I mean, what else was there to do? Most of the adults’ time was spent sitting under tests with wallets open, waiting for the next rash of kids to come by and empty them. While drinking beer. The adults. Not the kids. Stay with me here. So the only conceivable thing to do was walk around the food courts. Again.
So I’m a slug today. Barely able to move. Between the sore muscles, the lack of sleep, and knowing that not one thing got done around the house the entire weekend, I’m beat. Not to mention the sugar overload my body is attempting to deal with today.
So what’s your pleasure? What kind of junk food really gets you going? You tell me, and hopefully I’ll be back with something a bit less sugar-infused tomorrow.
Today? This is all I got.
Oh, wait. Except for this. Because I know you have all been waiting to see if this poor girl finally got what she deserved. It’s sad. I’ll bet she’d give all the millions up if she could just hold his skeletal body one last time.

MMMMMMMMM, funnel cakes really do me in too!

WHo is heaven’s name is this Michele who wields the power to make people visit other people’s blogs? I must know!
Fried sausage and pepper sandwich.

Tiff… I’ve been wondering the same thing.
As for my junk food problem… it’s nachos… good nachos are the death of me. Sometimes after fajita night at the house, you can find me squirrling away chicken and beef in the fridge just waiting to make some kick ass nachos on Saturday… guacamole is also subject to being horded at my house.
May 1, 2006 at 11:44 am
Man… I can practically smell the greasy goodness all the way over here in my world, and it is goooood. The most amazing bit of greasy glory I’ve ever had was a fried Milky Way. I kid you not! Imagine if you will a perfectly golden fried beignet with all sorts of chocolatey/caramely/nougaty goodness melted inside… It kicks a funnel cakes ass any day!
May 1, 2006 at 11:47 am
Ok, Angela. Must. Try. That. Now.
May 1, 2006 at 12:38 pm
Tater,
I cannot believe you did not tell me when they started selling fried twinkies! It is on my “must try before I die” list!
May 1, 2006 at 12:56 pm
Oh, man, I am a junk food junkie. Nachos, Indian tacos, funnel cakes, deep fried Snickers, kettlecorn, cheese frenchies, bloomin’ onions, you name it. I spend more time at the food booths than any other places at festivals. It’s sad.
May 1, 2006 at 1:42 pm
Kristie–
I heard about it AFTERWARDS. I totally missed out.
May 1, 2006 at 2:35 pm
Me LOVES the deep fried stuff. Beer battered onion rings and cheese fries Ugh. In my neck of the woods the ulitmate hot dog is called a Texas Hot. But they ain’t from Texas and they sure ain’t hot (spicy) so I’m not sure what the name’s all about (or why I keep using the word ain’t). They’re kinda like chili dogs but way better… I know where I’m goin’ for dinner!
May 1, 2006 at 5:05 pm
Chocolate covered yeast donuts. Those are my weakness. Oh yes.
May 1, 2006 at 5:31 pm
Mmmmm…. funnel cakes. Oh, man, such sugary goodness.
Now that you mentioned them, I can’t think of any other food.
Here from Michele’s today.

I have a particular affection for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups dipped in butter cream frosting. And yes, I am playing chicken with a diabetic coma.
My word verification has a HANDICAPPED SIGN under it. What does THAT mean?
May 1, 2006 at 6:53 pm
Junkfood? Popcorn with Reece’s Cups, fries, tapioca pudding, Krispy Kremes…..LOL
May 1, 2006 at 6:54 pm
A fried Twinkie? Are those LEGAL?
That’s like a cupcake that got amped to 11!!!
May 1, 2006 at 10:09 pm
I’m a sucker for anything cake-like… Twinkies, Ho-Ho’s, Ding Dongs, cupcakes… etc. Mmmm…
Congrats on being Michele’s site of the day! She sent me!
May 1, 2006 at 10:13 pm
Oh my gosh i love your blog! Lol especially like your slinky quote on your profile. It has been too long since someone’s blog made me laugh out loud like that. I can certainly see why Michele (who sent me here) chose you to be site of the day!! Congratulations.
May 1, 2006 at 10:25 pm
Oh yeah, funnel cakes are good. I also go for those cinnamon-y butter-y pecans & cashews when I can. There is a thing we go to that has crawfish nachos….yummy! Congrats to you, you famous person…. 🙂 cya!
May 1, 2006 at 10:45 pm
Oh, gosh, I LOVE funnel cake!! Love it, love it, love it! Thank God I don’t have access to it very often.
May 1, 2006 at 10:46 pm
Oops, forgot! Here from Michelle’s.
Got too excited thinking about the funnel cake!
May 1, 2006 at 10:46 pm
Hmmm tostitos and salsa. I could live on the stuff. Hi, Michele sent me. By the way, recently gave up Blogger myself so I feel your pain.
May 1, 2006 at 11:33 pm
mmmm.
funnel cake.
here from Michele’s, Ms. Site of the Day, you!
May 2, 2006 at 12:21 am
I never heard of funnel cakes before–second time today I learned of a ‘new’ to me, food! I kind of do not eat much junk food…but IF I did, it would probably be a Snickers Candy Bar!
And btw, Anna Nicole only won the “right” to pursue her husbands millions…not the millions themselves! (LOL) Isn’t that anazing? And to think she had to go to the highest court in the land to win this right!
Congrats on being Michele’s site of the day! Have Fun!
May 2, 2006 at 1:06 am
Congrats on site of the day!
I have to say, carnival food wins. Fried dough, turkey legs, funnel cakes, cotton candy, candy/caramel apples…ooooooh, my tummy hurts just THINKING about it….yum!
Oh…and if you think deep fried twinkies are great…you need to try deep fried OREOS! You dip THEM in pancake batter (or funnel cake batter, as it were), then drop them into oil and fry them up…OMG, death and heaven in a bite!
May 2, 2006 at 4:45 am
Good Morning. Michele sent me. I think ice cream does the most damage for me. I think a serving is the half gallon container and a spoon. Enjoying your blog. I know all about Walmart shoes.
May 2, 2006 at 5:44 am
I, for one, am kind of glad about the Anna Nicole thing…all leery sentiment aside about their “marriage”, she definitely deserves part of that money, and that son is probably gonna die first before he ever stops fighting her. Yike! I’m here from Michele’s today!
May 2, 2006 at 6:45 am
Michele sent me back today; congratulations on being the site of the day! Speaking of Blogger, I couldn’t post last night for about 3 hours, and now, this morning, your background is white instead of the pretty green it usually is. What gives?
May 2, 2006 at 8:21 am
ROFLMAO! You’re funny 🙂 And…jambalaya at a fair is a sure sign you’re in Louisiana, LOL! Up here in MA, we have corn dogs, clam chowdah (correct northern pronunciation) in a bread bowl, apple crisp & cider (fall fairs, anyway, which are the most fun!)
Oh, and hi, Michele sent me 🙂
May 2, 2006 at 8:21 am
Kenju — the white background is on purpose. But I’m not sure I’m happy with it — it may be back to its old color by the end of the day.
Welcome to all of you visiting from Michele’s — thanks for dropping by!
May 2, 2006 at 8:21 am
Funnel cakes I love. Fried Twinkies? Well that might just send me right over the edge.
Truthfully, I rather have chocolate fondue. A big pot all to myself.
Hi – Michele sent me!
May 2, 2006 at 8:30 am
Mmmm junk food is like a Mexican specialty… just that kind of junk food is mostly salty… anyone heard of tamale torta?
Here from Michele today! Congratulations!
May 2, 2006 at 8:45 am
Tamale Torta?!?!? OMG, those are awesome… but so are the goods at any little taqueria down south ‘o the border… well… really south. Border town street foot is just spiced mystery meat!
May 2, 2006 at 8:46 am
Oh, funnel cakes! Yum. With fresh-squeezed lemonade. Love em. Powdered sugar everywhere. And of course there’s always ice cream…
Michele sent me today. Have a lovely Tuesday!
May 2, 2006 at 10:36 am
Before I changed my ways, I used to love fried egg, Spam, and cheese sandwiches. Thankfully, I stopped just short of chasing it all down with a glass of warmed-up bacon grease, so some of my arteries still work today.
May 2, 2006 at 10:37 am
Oh — thanks for alluding to one of my favorite books!
May 2, 2006 at 11:16 am
blogger really ticked me off yesterday… not letting me post pix either… darn blogger!
May 2, 2006 at 3:10 pm
I loves me some Little Debbie Swiss Cake (read:crack) Rolls. Yummers.
Here via Michele today!
