Ah, what a great time to live in Louisiana. For those of you that don’t, and for those of you who aren’t enjoying a 75 degree day, let me share with you!
First, some music … (to really get into the spirit, click the link, minimize it, and listen while you visit!)
Next, some king cake (virtual, of course — I ate all the real stuff already) …
Now, a parade …
And, finally, something to do (instead of work).
Now. Don’t you feel like you’re in Louisiana?
Almost?

Sob!!!

My son still laments the fact that here in Texas he doesn’t get the Mardi Gras week off from school as he did in Lafayette!
I was happy I found a decent King Cake here and didn’t have to order from my favorite bakery, Keller’s, in Lafayette this year.
Lassiez les bonne temps rouler, Chere!

Aw, Angela, I was afraid I was gonna make you cry!!!!
Now, if only I could figure out how to ship you some gumbo…
February 4, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Sure, return just to tell us how much fun you’re having. That’s real nice, WN, REAL nice.
February 4, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Geez. I even left music to attempt to keep Tiff from getting grumpy.

Oooooh!!! The colors! Nice blog header, Louisianan. Nice you! I’ll have some of that King…, what do you mean you ate it all? Isn’t the weather enough for you? Must you have it all?
Seriously and I was, a trip through your post has me all festive and Ash Wednesday- fearing. Thank you.
The puzzle? I couldn’t concentrate.

Awww. I had the good luck to spend a week in Nawwwlins back in 2002, post-9/11 (which made airport security interesting, since I was traveling with an Indian-born college professor) but pre-Katrina. I had to do a lot of work, because I was helping to run the “Cultural Diversity” suite for the annual conference of the American Counseling Assn., but I also had a lot of down-time.
Pascale’s Manale, mmmmmmmmm…. I got their recipe for bread pudding. Just mmmmmm all around.
Sigh.

And me here in a CUBICLE, what with the “no noise” booshit.
Or, I WAS at work. I can listen Nao. Yay!!!
February 4, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Well, we have one thing – tomorrow will be about 75* here, maybe more. So we can pretend we’re walking down Bourbon St. drinking a hurricane!
February 4, 2008 at 8:21 pm
I will be wearing my tiger beads to work tomorrow – didn’t get king cake although a fellow Cajun went to his friend’s in Tallahassee and the guy had ordered a Gambino’s – my piece got accidentally left ont he counter. BOO!
February 4, 2008 at 9:57 pm
Hey, where is my Cajun recipes for Fat Tuesday?

Those colors in the parade photo make life worth living.
My mom and dad went to NO for their honeymoon where my green, naive, country girl mother had several hurricanes before she realized she could not feel her feet. It was a story they told forever.
February 5, 2008 at 11:19 pm
mmmm… king cake!
introduced to it by my college roommate, who was from NO!
February 5, 2008 at 11:46 pm
I’d like to be in Louisiana tonight. That has to be a good time.
February 6, 2008 at 12:41 am
Oh, I wish I was home.
February 6, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Aww I feel left out. My daughter is in Rio for Carnivale and you’ve got your own version there . . .I need a bit of colour in my life! *green with envy* Enjoy, good to see New Orleans hasn’t shaken its celebratory spirit! I wish they televised these things down in the Antipodes! The only carnival we’re famous for is the Melbourne Cup and the Gay and Lesbian Mardis Gras!
February 7, 2008 at 5:47 am
No, not even almost. But I can bring up recollections of the real thing! Actually, most of my family from down there is coming out here for a few days later this month. It’s the next best thing, after all!

Love the Concentration Game! I’ve never been to New Orleans… must put that on my must visit list soon.
February 8, 2008 at 1:37 pm
This is the ONE state I am dying to visit and haven’t yet. I so wish I could be there right now.
One day I will….
PS- are they still putting the babies in the King cake? I didn’t learn about the tradition until an attorney I worked with sent me one a few years ago. I thought it was really weird until someone explained it to me.
February 8, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Welllllllll, yes and no. The cakes still come with the babies, but now you have to put them in yourself. Liability, you know.
Sheesh.
February 9, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Do you have to flash your boobs for beads? Oh wait….wrong carnival.
February 9, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Um, Brenda? Yes.
February 10, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Mmmm…King Cake. I always find the baby. Although if I found it today, I’d probably step on it on principle.
And shrimp creole. Sigh, I miss the South. At least it’s 75 here today too. I may OD on Vitamin D.
February 10, 2008 at 7:07 pm
If I NEVER EVER see another kid chewing on a pair of Mardi Gras beads ever again I won’t be that sad. BUT if the Blue Bell Mardi Gras ice cream goes away, I might wimper a little bit.

So, what did you give up for Lentils? (Or Lent, if you’re one of those weirdo religious types.)
